A meaningful step forward for the profession.

Congratulations to South Africa for formally recognizing the essential role of court interpreters in the administration of justice. Robing interpreters alongside judicial officers sends a powerful message about dignity, professionalism, and equal standing in the courtroom.

Equally important is the emphasis on foundational training -always the cornerstone of quality interpreting- now complemented by this visible, external acknowledgment of interpreters’ contribution to due process and access to justice.

An example worth noting well beyond South Africa’s borders.
